Road Transport Services
The ultimate guide to national highway corridors, carrier liabilities, inland Incoterms, and cross-border trucking compliance.
National & International Road Freight Solutions
Road transportation forms the backbone of global supply chains. At Scan2Freight, we coordinate premium trucking networks across India, as well as direct cross-border trade routes to neighboring landlocked and sovereign nations.
Operating out of industrial hubs like Ludhiana, we connect manufacturers directly to major coastal seaports (Mundra, Mumbai, Kolkata) and dry ports (ICDs) via flatbeds, container body trucks, and specialized heavy haulage lowbeds.

Direct Cross-Border Highway Corridors
We manage regular cross-border road trucking corridors, routing cargo directly through land customs border gates (LCPs):
- India to Nepal Corridor: Transit from northern industrial states to Kathmandu or Birgunj via the **Raxaul / Birgunj Border Gate**.
- India to Bangladesh Corridor: Route from Ludhiana or Kolkata through the **Petrapole / Benapole Land Customs Port**, delivering directly to Dhaka and Chittagong.
- India to Bhutan Corridor: Cross-border transport via Jaigaon to Phuentsholing.
Inland Road Transport Incoterms 2020
For domestic and cross-border road shipping, we handle transaction responsibilities under these specific terms:
Seller loads cargo onto the buyer's truck at their factory. Buyer assumes costs and risks for the highway journey.
Seller pays transport up to the agreed inland destination point. Risk transfers to the buyer once cargo is given to the first road carrier.
Seller delivers cargo to the buyer's destination warehouse door, ready for unloading. Seller assumes all transit risk.
Carriage by Road Act 2007 & Insurance Liabilities
Cargo transport on Indian national highways operates under the legal framework of the Carriage by Road Act 2007. We manage carrier declarations under two risk categories:
- Owners Risk (OR): Shippers declare their own cargo insurance coverage. The transporter is only liable for damage arising from direct negligence or accidents.
- Carriers Risk (CR): The carrier assumes liability for loss, damage, or delivery delays. We issue a Carriers Risk consignment note, backed by comprehensive carrier insurance policies.
FASTag & Green Tax Toll Compliances
National highway compliance is digitized to prevent transport delays at checkpoint toll booths:
- FASTag Integration: All fleet vehicles are equipped with active RFID tags linked to prepaid transport wallets for electronic toll payments.
- Green Tax Filings: Commercial trucks crossing specific state borders (e.g. entering Delhi NCR) clear environmental tax requirements beforehand.
- NHAI Overload Sensors: Fleet loaders verify axle weight profiles to ensure vehicles do not exceed NHAI highway load limits, preventing fines and delays.
Essential Road Transport Documentation
To comply with highway regulations and cross-border land custom rules, carriers must generate:
- Lorry Receipt (LR) / Consignment Note: The standard contract of carriage for road freight.
- E-Way Bill: Mandatory electronic document generated on the Indian GST portal for transporting goods valued over ₹50,000.
- Packing List & Commercial Invoice: Verified at land border customs checkpoints.
- Transit Bond / Carnet: Required for cross-border transit to guarantee that cargo is not diverted into local markets without customs clearance.
