Direct Port-to-Rail Staging Logistics

At large gateway seaports (such as Mundra Port or Nhava Sheva JNPT), rail lines extend directly into the container terminal yards. Sea-Rail staging allows containers to be transferred directly between arriving cargo vessels and rail flatcars.

This direct staging bypasses the need for off-dock warehousing and truck drayage, accelerating throughput for imports destined for inland container depots (ICDs).

What is the SMTP customs procedure?

SMTP stands for Sub-Manifested Transit Procedure. It allows import containers to be transferred from the arrival seaport to an inland dry port (ICD) via rail without paying customs duties at the gateway port, postponing customs clearing until arrival at the ICD.
