FCL Intermodal Rail
Seamless door-to-port container transport using specialized double-stack container flatcars.
Full Container Load (FCL) Rail Intermodal
Intermodal rail shipping provides a reliable bridge between ocean shipping and inland dry ports. By loading standard 20ft and 40ft ocean containers directly onto train flatcars, cargo is moved from manufacturing hubs to port docks without the need for manual cargo repacking.
This intermodal flow combines the flexibility of local trucking (for factory-to-ICD drayage) with the high volume, speed, and safety of dedicated long-haul rail corridors.
Container Flatcar Wagon Specifications
We operate container shipments utilizing standard Indian Railways BLC (Bogie Low-Height Container) flatcars:
| Wagon Model | Platform Height (from Rail) | Max Capacity | Container Load Setup |
|---|---|---|---|
| BLCA (A-Car Flatcar) | 1,009 mm | 61 Tons | One 40ft container OR two 20ft containers |
| BLCB (B-Car Flatcar) | 1,009 mm | 61 Tons | One 40ft container OR two 20ft containers |
Twist-Lock Security & Terminal Gantry Handling
Containers are secured and handled at rail terminals using specialized mechanics:
- Automatic Twist-Locks (ATL): Built-in steel locks on flatcar platforms engage container corner castings, locking them down automatically as the container is lowered.
- Reach Stackers & RTGs: Rail terminals utilize heavy reach stacker cranes and Rubber-Tyred Gantry (RTG) cranes to load and unload containers from train platforms.
