Steel & Metals Cargo
Specialized port rigging and dry under-deck hold stowage for hot rolled coils, steel plates, and structural beams.
Industrial Steel & Base Metals Transport
Structural steel products, pipe bundles, and hot rolled steel coils are dense, heavy cargoes that require careful weight distribution. Improper stowage can exceed deck load limits, compromise vessel stability, or cause cargo shifting.
At Scan2Freight, we operate specialized cargo holds and heavy lifting gear to ensure structural metals are handled without damage and stowed securely.
Rigging Equipment: C-Hooks & Coil Lifters
Lifting heavy coils requires specialized equipment to prevent metal damage:
- C-Hooks: Balanced counter-weighted steel hooks that insert through the core of the coil, allowing rapid, secure lifts without damaging the outer steel wraps.
- Timber Cradles & Wedges: Coils are placed in custom timber cradles and secured with hardwood wedges to prevent rolling in the hold during rough seas.
Preventing Cargo Sweat & Rust
Steel cargo is highly susceptible to rust caused by moisture condensation (sweat):
- Cargo Sweat: Occurs when a vessel loaded with cold steel voyages into warm, humid climates, causing air moisture to condense on the cold steel surfaces.
- Dew Point Monitoring: Cargo holds are monitored, and ventilation is kept closed when the outside air dew point is higher than the cargo temperature.
