Frequently Asked Questions on Import Services

Why is an electronic Bill of Entry mandatory for imports into India?
Indian Customs regulations require every commercial importer to file an electronic Bill of Entry through the ICEGATE portal. It serves as the official legal declaration of imported cargo, enabling customs officers to assess classifications, calculate applicable BCD and IGST duties, and issue the final Out of Charge (OOC) order for cargo release.
What is the difference between Home Consumption and In-Bond Bill of Entry?
A Home Consumption Bill of Entry (White BoE) is filed when you intend to clear the cargo immediately by paying customs duties upfront. An In-Bond Bill of Entry (Yellow BoE) allows goods to be transferred to a licensed customs bonded warehouse, deferring duty payment until goods are cleared for domestic sale (Ex-Bond Green BoE).
Can Scan2Freight handle overseas pickup on Ex-Works (EXW) or FOB terms?
Yes. We coordinate door-to-door Ex-Works (EXW) pickups directly from supplier factories overseas, managing local foreign trucking, origin export customs, ocean or air freight, and final delivery anywhere in India. We also handle FOB consignments once cargo is loaded at the origin port.
How do you handle inland transit from seaports to dry ports (ICDs)?
We arrange direct multimodal container movement via CONCOR rail or dedicated bonded road trailers from gateway seaports (Nhava Sheva, Mundra) directly to inland container depots like ICD Ludhiana, ICD Delhi (TKD), or nearest ICDs for convenient local customs assessment.
