Port Crane Staging: MHC & Floating Sheerlegs
Lifting heavy industrial components requires selecting the correct crane setup at the terminal:
- Mobile Harbor Cranes (MHC): High-capacity shore cranes capable of lifting loads up to 120 metric tons under single-hook configurations.
- Floating Sheerlegs: Barges equipped with massive A-frame sheerleg cranes, towed alongside vessels to perform heavy lifts of up to 400+ metric tons.
Welded Stoppers & Cargo Securing
Heavy machinery cannot be secured with standard lashing wires alone:
- Welded Stoppers: Heavy steel blocks or brackets are welded directly onto the vessel deck plates around the cargo footprint to prevent lateral shifting.
- Turnbuckle and Chain Lashings: High-tensile steel chains are tightened with turnbuckles to secure cargo to deck lashing eyes.
